Mona Okulla is a German- Ugandan filmmaker, poet and visual artist currently based in Berlin. Her work focusses on the synergies between poetry and film- reflecting on each medium’s chances and limitations. On a formal level her work is centered around the abolition of power dynamics between the filmmaker and the people that are portrayed. She also critically reflects on power dynamics in the film industry, created through race and gender. The result is an intimacy in the visual language. On a contentual level, her work focusses on identity, African diaspora, the decolonization of black bodies as well as a critical-sensitive analysis of the (re)presentation of marginalized groups.
